Establishment of Women's Studies Center:-

Women’s Studies Center has been establishment in SantGadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati, by University Grants Commission under XI plan as a department in 2010. Under XII plan, as interdisciplinary Post Graduate course; named Gender and Women’s Studies has been started under social sciences stream from the academic year 2-13-2014.

The Concept of Women's Studies Center:-

Women’s Studies is newly developed study stream after 1960s. First developed in Western countries and expanded in India during 1980s. In our Society, Women are treated secondary; injustice takes place against them in various fields of day to day life. There is a need to understand reasons, impacts and curative action plans to curb this evil of Women’s discrimination. By understanding this necessity; the field of Women’s Studies Developed in India. This study stream bases on the concept of Gender has come forward through Women’s movements.

Objectives:-

• Curbing gender discrimination in the field of knowledge by brining ‘Gender’ as a subject in mainstream of ‘Education and Research’.
• To step forward in the field of knowledge to establish ‘Gender Equality’ in society by separating ‘Humanness’ of a person from the suffocating male-female boundaries.
• To give exposure to women’s life, their experiences, struggle and non-mentioned existence.
• To understand gender discrimination in various fields of day to day life and to do curative research on it.
• Create wide connection and dialogue in the field of women’s studies at state and national level.

Characteristics:-

• Special help to students in learning and action plans by full time dedicated teachers and staff members.
• The interdisciplinary syllabus grants a legal permit to a person to work in the field of knowledge (education, research, fieldwork etc) by going beyond the traditional boundaries of study.
• Scope for theoretical study as well as field work.
• Collection of authentic books related to subject and independent reading room gives opportunity to students foe wide reading.
• Apart for this, full scope to bring new ideas in reality.
• Internet facility available at the center for the students which is useful  in there studies and research.

Opportunities:-

Students  can qualify for the post of lecture through the NET exam, Helpful for the post in “Women and Child Welfare” department and such other governmental departments, Opportunity to work on various governmental projects on women’s issues, Helpful for the post of researcher and other posts in various NGOs working on women’s issues, The perspective of gender equality developing through the study, while working on various posts of defense ministry as well as judicial system is important through practical and official angle, Helpful for participation in real action programs through various governmental and semi – governmental scholarships at state, national and international levels.
